| Frequently Asked
Questions Are
you a head hunter?
No. I work for you as
a client. Headhunters are paid a commission for finding candidates in a
specific industry, and are paid by the recruiting organization.
Are you a career coach?
I am both coach and counselor. A coach works with you to reach a specific goal in a definit period of time. I don't set rigid deadlines, but prefer to give you counseling at the pace that is right for you.
Where do
you provide your counseling services?
I counsel clients at
my home office. I also counsel by telephone, email, fax and postal mail.
Do you give tests?
I use a variety of
materials for assessment of your interests, skills and values, which are the
keys to your job search. Rather than tests, they are interesting and often
fun tools—questionnaires and card sorts are two examples. Many are on-line
and supply a personalized report.
What do you look for in a
client?
Someone who is
sincere about making a change, who will agree to participate in job-search
research when necessary.
Must I agree to counseling
on work-life balance, along with my career counseling?
Not if you have no
need for it. However, your lifestyle does affect your career, and this is a
component of my service which often yields surprising and valuable results.
Why do you include
work-life balance counseling?
I know its value
because of my personal experience as a single parent, my professional
experience with hundreds of individuals and groups, and my work with
employers who provide work-life benefits.
Do you assist with résumés?
Yes, but you should be
able to do your own after you have completed the assessments for the job
search, and have a definite career goal in mind. I can refer you to books
for models, or resources on line. I can also critique your current
résumé.
Can't I do this job search
on my own?
Of course, but it
isn't easy and it will take longer. If you want to try, begin by reading
"What Color is Your Parachute?" Do all the exercises. Call me if you get
stuck.
If I decide to use your
counseling, do I have to read that book?
No, but it is a good
reference among others I can give you.
How do I decide if I want
to work with you?
You may call for a
FREE 15-minute appointment at my home/office. A telephone call to tell me of
your plans for counseling is often sufficient for your decision. |
